I thought I would try and post a few things in the next day or so...or maybe all today... who knows!

This is a beanie and fingerless glove set I made with redheart's new reflective yarn. It was super easy to work with, I just wish it wasn't so expensive!

Happy Birthday P

December 20th used to be the day we celebrated my cousin's birthday, it was the marking that there are only six months until my own birthday. It used to be just a day.

But in 2009 that changed. My nephew was born, and died that day, and now it carries the heavy weight of grief. I can't express how I feel, only that it doesn't get better with time, you just adapt to the pain left behind.

I can't buy him presents, or give him love...But I made this for him this year....

Pink Santa

Hello folks!

It's been awhile a loooong while! Too long, I know. For the moment, I'll spare you the details and share with you my newest completed project (that's not a gift)

Isn't he cute?  Right now he's hanging in front of my calendar (The purple numbers are the days left until my Dad comes home. 20 as of today :D) I will probably try and sneak him onto my mom's tree when I'm done posting here.

I hope everyone is doing well, and I'm hoping I can get back into the swing of posting regularly soon!

Long time no blog!

Scones! My newest addiction...I'm in love with making them, they are SO easy (this is my 2nd batch the first...well they didn't turn out so well lol)
Hi everyone!

There has been a lot going on in my life, but then again, from some perpspectives not a lot. (yay for contradictions?)

I'm going to attempt in my nyquil'd state to sum up what's been going down in my life, and why I haven't done much blogging in the past month.

August 31st: I entered the world of smartphones! (finally)!!!! So I have a phone that DOES things. It's awesome, I love it. I feel like one of the cool kids now! xD hehe.
This also means that I now have an instagram! :D all can follow me! (if you'd like) To see a lot of yarny stuff and random things from my life that don't/won't get posted here. <Instagram!>

I also have snapchat, which is pretty cool in my definition. Except I don't have a lot of people to snap with. xD I keep trying to recruit my friends, but it's slow going. I don't do a lot of selfies...(though definitely more than I did before I had a nice camera phone) I take random photos of my dogs a lot.

September 1st: My dad left. He's living in Odessa Tx, over a thousand miles away for a job that's going to last at least 4 years maybe longer. He didn't leave us like you may think, I should clarify. He left FOR us.  Because of his sacrifice I'll be returning to school in January. Which is great...but also makes me sad. We won't be seeing him again until Christmas, and then not for another six months after that.  So...I've not done a lot in the past month because of this reason.

So...we will see how October goes...yes? :)

40 blocks for an Afghan! (more on that later)

And on the crafting side of things; Most of the things I've been working on are Christmas gifts so I can't share them all. I might try and do a collage of sneak peeks to tease you with, until I can share them. But I'm hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to have most of my christmas things done by Thanksgiving...but we shall see.

Anyway I will leave you with a few random photos of my recent life!

Cosmo! The newest addition to our house. :D

Mad as a Hornet!

So...awhile ago, my dad had to get rid of this nest of hornets...cause they are dangerous. Well he 'lulled' the nasty critters and my mom and I took the opportunity to take photos! While we were super careful NOT to get too close lol.

Me taking a photo of my mom taking a photo of the nest.

Stay safe!!

Fingerless Gloves

Yo! How are all you guys and gals (gals and guys?) I'm doing good...trying to dream away this summer heat though.

So I made fingerless gloves! With my double knit Special by Stylecraft.
I personally hate gloves with fingers. Because the fingers are either too long or too short, never just right. Fun right?  So when I started getting back into crochet one of the first things I made were fingerless gloves. But, last winter, I sort of ruined the only pair I had made for myself by using them to scrap ice off of my car during the Ice storm in Dallas.

Like the sneak peak of my dad's afghan?
So I made another pair! I like this pair better because I like the yarn better. I don't know if they'll be warm enough yet, because it's not cold and I can't test them. But they work great otherwise, they fit and I can still type and crochet with them. Woo!!

Birthday Afghan and My Alien

Guys! You have NO idea how stupidly proud of this afghan I am. It's the first full sized one I've made and oh my goodness was it a PAIN in the hiney to work on.

As you see I started with blocks and then went in rounds, and then added more blocks. That was NOT the best of me don't do it!! But by the time I realized it wouldn't work I had made all those smaller blocks...I had to frog and add until I could make them work. xD  Then I did more rounds...but it wasn't get long enough!!! So I went from rounds to back and forth rows. I did ten on each end, and then a couple more rounds and by that point it was plenty wide enough and I was running out of yarn. So more back and forth it was! I thought I was never going to finish it in time for my dad's birthday (July 11th). But I did!!! I was a day early in fact..and I breathed the BIGGEST sigh of relief when I finished it I promise you.

It took roughly 2 months, with a few other projects between. It's 60in wide and 80in long. I used 2 skeins of red heart I love this yarn in aqua (I think) for the dark blue 3 skeins of red heart supersaver charcoal, 3 skeins red heart supersaver turqua and 2 skeins of crafters secret in splash. So 10 skeins of yarn. I used a 5mm crochet hook and double crochet stitch throughout.
And of course My dad LOVED IT! :D

And...I just want to share a couple of photos of my sweet Niece and goddaughter. Okay, so she only LOOKS sweet, sometimes she can be a handful. She's almost 4 years old and boy is she a sassy little thing. But we all love her so much and spoil her even though we shouldn't.

I took a bunch of photo's the last time she had a 'sleepover' and I just wanted to share the cuteness!!

And also MANY MANY MANY thanks to my bestest friend in New York who sent a box full of books for Alien to 'read' and play with. :D
